TVGuard — Privacy Policy

TVGuard is a parental-control tool. This phone app pairs with the TVGuard app on your Android TV over your home Wi-Fi network and lets you lock or block apps, set bedtime windows and daily limits, and control the TV. This policy explains what data the phone app handles and why.

The short version: TVGuard has no accounts and no servers of our own. Your phone talks to your TV directly over your local network. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to us — because there is nowhere for it to go.

Information we handle

• Pairing & connection data — a randomly generated pairing secret and your TV's name and local IP address, stored only on your phone so it can reconnect to your TV. This never leaves your device except to reach your own TV on your network.
• Parental control settings — the locks, schedules, limits and PIN you configure. These are stored on your phone and sent directly to your TV. The parent PIN is transmitted over an authenticated (and encrypted) local connection and is stored on the TV only as a salted hash.
• App list & usage stats you view — when connected, your TV sends the list of its installed apps and screen-time figures to your phone so you can manage them. This data stays between your phone and your TV.

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, photos, or files. There is no user account and no cloud backend.

Permissions and why we ask

• Camera — used only to scan the pairing QR code shown on your TV. The camera image is processed on-device to read the code and is not stored or transmitted.
• Local network / Wi-Fi — to discover and communicate with your TV on your home network.

Advertising (free version)

The free version of the phone app displays a banner advertisement supplied by Google AdMob. To serve ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process device identifiers (such as your advertising ID) and related data as described in Google's policies. This ad data is handled by Google, not by us.

Removing ads: purchasing the “Remove ads” product or the Pro subscription disables the banner and the ad SDK stops requesting ads.

Purchases

Optional purchases (the “Remove ads” one-time product and the Pro subscription) are processed by Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment card details. Your entitlement is cached locally on your device; we do not run a server to validate it.

How your data is shared

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties, except:

• Your own TV, over your local network, to deliver the controls you set.
• Google, through the AdMob SDK (free version) and Google Play Billing, as described above and governed by Google's policies.

Children's privacy

TVGuard is intended for use by parents and guardians to manage a family television. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The controls you set are stored locally and on your own TV.

Data security & retention

Communication between your phone and TV is authenticated with an HMAC signature and can be encrypted (AES-GCM) on your local network. Settings persist on your device until you change them, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes the locally stored pairing and settings from your phone.

Your choices

• Unpair a TV from within the app to remove its stored connection details.
• Clear the app's storage or uninstall the app to remove all local data.
• Reset your advertising ID in your device's Google settings, or buy ad removal to stop ad requests.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
