TVGuard for Android TV — Privacy Policy

This is the TVGuard app that runs on your Android TV. A parent pairs it with the TVGuard phone app over your home Wi-Fi network to lock or block apps, enforce bedtime windows and daily limits, and protect the TV. This policy explains what the TV app accesses and why.

The short version: TVGuard has no accounts and no servers of our own, and shows no ads. The TV communicates only with your paired phone on your local network. Nothing about your viewing or your device is sent to us or to any third party.

Information this app accesses

• Foreground app name — to enforce the parent's rules, the app reads the package name of the app currently in the foreground (for example, to know a locked app was opened). It does not read screen contents, text, keystrokes, or any personal data on screen.
• App usage statistics — the app reads Android's usage stats to calculate screen time per app for daily limits and the usage view. This is computed on the device.
• Installed app list — the list of launchable apps on the TV, so the parent can choose which to lock or block. This is sent only to the paired phone on your local network.
• Parent PIN — received from the paired phone over an authenticated (and encrypted) local connection and stored only as a salted hash. The plain PIN is never stored.

We do not collect your name, email, location, contacts, photos, or files, and we do not build a profile of what you watch.

Permissions and why we ask

• Accessibility Service — used solely to detect which app is in the foreground so locks can be applied, and to keep the parent's protection from being trivially bypassed. It does not collect or transmit screen content.
• Usage Access — required to measure per-app screen time for daily limits and reporting.
• Device Admin — helps keep the protection active and prevents the app from being easily uninstalled by a child. It is not used to collect data.
• Local network / Wi-Fi — to advertise the TV to, and communicate with, the paired phone on your home network.
• Run at startup — so protection resumes after the TV restarts.

How your data is shared

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with any third party. The only recipient of any data is your own paired phone, over your local network, and only the information needed to display and enforce the controls you set (app list, screen-time figures, status). There is no advertising SDK and no analytics in this app.

Children's privacy

TVGuard is a parental-control tool configured by a parent or guardian for a shared family television. It monitors app usage on that TV for the purpose of enforcing the parent's rules. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children; the data it processes stays on the TV and your paired phone.

Data security & retention

Communication with your phone is authenticated with an HMAC signature and can be encrypted (AES-GCM) over your local network. Settings and the PIN hash persist on the TV until the device is unpaired, the app's data is cleared, or the app is uninstalled.

Your choices

• Unpair from the phone app, or reset/uninstall the TV app, to remove stored settings and the pairing.
• Revoke Accessibility, Usage Access, or Device Admin at any time in Android Settings (doing so will stop enforcement).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
